The Backstory

Managing Director Alistair Cuzens established Sovereign City Electrics in 1995. Initially, he ran the business from his ute and trailer. As the business rapidly grew in both staff and customers, the ute and trailer were soon replaced by our purpose-built factory, located in the Wendouree Industrial Estate.

Alistair’s objective from the beginning was to provide effective, economically considered and innovative electrical installation and maintenance solutions to customers. The importance of this objective underpins the business today.

A Valuable Lesson From a Humble Beginning

Alistair began his electrical career as an apprentice at Bosch in Clayton, Victoria. One of the first things he and his fellow apprentices were tasked to do was to individually file an unformed piece of metal channel completely flat and square with a width of 2mm—using only a hacksaw and with an allowable tolerance of + or - 0.2mm! Impressively, Alistair fulfilled this task in just his second attempt.

That particular project—which seemed like a completely pointless exercise 30 years ago—taught him that patience, precision and an essential desire to do the job at the highest standard are the keys to excellence in the electrical industry.
